There are numerous products available for Property Management, Point-of-Sale, Accounting, Payroll, Retail Inventory, Food & Beverage Inventory, Gift Cards, Loyalty, Membership, Activity Management, Reservations and much more. What we have found in our years in the industry is that most vendors either cover a single operational area very well, but little else, or they cover a broad operational spectrum inadequately. If you need the robust features of a single function system, you end up with islands that are difficult to connect together adequately.

Lately, the trend appears to be moving toward hosted solutions (ASP's) which will leave you with islands that are well managed and reliable, but even more remote and less under your control. Another observation is that innovation leaders in the industry are bridging these islands with great success and are able to architect a broader solution across these specialized systems. This has been the case for many years, but progress is accelerating as more vendors are opening their systems to be interconnected.
